Lynde Creek Watershed
Existing Conditions Report

The Central Lake Ontario Conservation is in the process of preparing updated watershed management plans for each of its major watersheds. In the last few years, enactment of new provincial legislation and policies, like the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act and Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan (ORMCP), Clean Water Act, Greenbelt Act and Plan, and the 2005 Provincial Policy Statement (PPS) have placed a greater emphasis on the need for watershed planning. In fact, the ORMCP requires watershed plans to be completed for all watersheds within the Moraine.

Early in 2007, the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) launched the development of a watershed management plan for the Lynde Creek. Later that year, a Phase 1 draft Existing Conditions Report of available watershed-related information was released and consultations ensued. Based on those consultations, a revised and finalized Existing Conditions Report, June 2008 has now been developed.

The final Existing Conditions Report will be used in Phase 2 reporting activities to develop specific strategies to maintain, improve and restore the watershed’s integrity. Once confirmed, these strategies will ultimately help incorporate relevant ecosystem considerations into land-use planning, decision making, and stewardship initiatives. Stakeholder participation in this process is valued, and all interested parties will be notified of upcoming draft report releases and related information sessions.
