Catch The Big One At Your Local Conservation Area

Ontario Family Fishing Week (OFFW)

The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority would like to invite the public to visit one of the local Conservation Areas and enjoy some fishing fun during the Ontario Family Fishing Week.

If you or someone you know would like to try fishing in Ontario waters for the first time (or the first time in a long time), circle the week of July 3-11, 2010 on your calendar. For those nine days only (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday), Canadian residents can enjoy the fun of fishing in Ontario without a licence during the annual Ontario Family Fishing Weekend.

Please note, during this event all other regulations, fees and limits will apply.  Ontario Family Fishing Week offers: fishing festivals, clinics, derbies and educational activities.  For event information please contact a tourism information centre near your home or destination or call the OFFW Event Information Line at (705) 748-6324 or visit the Ontario Family Fishing Weekend website at www.familyfishingweekend.com.

“Creeks within CLOCA’s jurisdiction provide many great angling opportunities for a variety of fish species, such as, brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, smallmouth bass, panfish and many others,” states Gord Geissberger, Coordinator of Community Outreach with Central Lake Ontario Conservation.  “Family Fishing Weekend is a great time to take a break, pack a picnic lunch along with your fishing rod and discover your local conservation area.” 

The following local conservation areas are open from dawn to dusk with fishing opportunities:

Heber Down Conservation Area ( Whitby ) - Disabled access and fishing platform is available along with plenty of streambank fishing along the Lynde Creek.  The disabled fishing platform is located at the Devil’s Den Pond.

Enniskillen Conservation Area (Clarington) – Fishing along the sides of the Bowmanville Creek.
(Admission $1/person - Honour Box)

Lynde Shores Conservation Area ( Whitby ) - Fishing in Lynde Creek only via boardwalk from the parking lot.
(Pay and display parking in effect. )

Oshawa Valleylands Conservation Area ( Oshawa ) – Streambank fishing along the Oshawa Creek.
The creek is located behind the Conservation Administrative Office at 100 Whiting Avenue, Oshawa. Parking Available.
