Recreation & Conservation Areas
The Recreation and Conservation Areas Programs combine land acquisition, trail improvements, and wildlife monitoring. The Areas are managed to protect their natural features and to provide safe, passive recreation for all. The monitoring activities assess the health of wildlife populations and their habitats while indicating priority locations for rehabilitation.

Outdoor Education and Environmental Events
Outdoor Education and Environmental Events at the Conservation Areas attract more than 26,000 students, children and adults annually. Our 20 education programs are designed to meet the Ontario curriculum learning expectations. The Maple Syrup Festival and the Durham Children’s Groundwater Festival are annual events. Other events for the general public include nature hikes, bird watching and craft shows.
