The Durham Region Coastal Wetland Monitoring Project is designed as a long-term program assessing the health of 15 wetlands along the north shore of Lake Ontario in Durham Region (see map below).
In order to standardize the collection of biological and physical data among the partner organizations, a Methodology Handbook was developed by Environment Canada and the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority and field work began in the spring of 2002.

Following two years of field work, the Durham Region Coastal Wetland Monitoring Project: Year 2 Technical Report was prepared by Environment Canada and CLOCA staff. This 266-page document describes the data collected and analyzed from 2002 and 2003 and is designed for a scientific audience.

What can I expect to see in the future?
An update report currently being prepared by Environment Canada is expected to be completed by spring 2005. This document will summarize the results of biological monitoring (i.e. bird, amphibian, fish, aquatic macroinvertebrate and aquatic vegetation surveys) that occurred during 2004.
