In order to make sound, science-based management decisions about local watersheds, CLOCA conducts long-term watershed health monitoring. This information helps to understand current conditions, identify ecological trends, and provides a strong basis to measure the effectiveness of stewardship activities. Typical components of the watershed that are monitored include: aquatic habitat (e.g. fish and invertebrates), terrestrial habitat (e.g. vegetation, wetlands and wildlife habitat) and water quality and quantity of both surface water and groundwater.
To help ensure that monitoring is done using accepted methodologies and information is collected in a standardized way, whenever possible, CLOCA participates in national, provincial and municipal networks. Some partners include: Environment Canada, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and other Conservation Authorities.
