Catering Company (Contract Position)
Seasonal (Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival) - Feb 26th to April 9th, 2025
This is a seasonal contract from February 26th to April 9th, 2025, including weekends (approximately 6 weeks) and catering staff will be required to work all or some of the following dates: Twelve (12) Festival days (March 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30) plus additional 7 hours for initial kitchen setup. Twenty-two (22) Education days (March 3, 4, 5, 6, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 31, April 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9).
The Caterer is responsible for providing professionally prepared, freshly cooked “pancake meal” to event visitors as per Event Organizers and Health Department standards at Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority’s annual Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival. The Caterer is responsible for daily general kitchen responsibilities including setup, food preparation and end of day cleanup. CLOCA will provide all ingredients, supplies and equipment necessary for the various aspects of food preparation. This position may receive support from volunteers so must provide professional leadership and direction. Must be trained to maintain a safe and orderly sanitized work area and demonstrate proper food handling methods following the Region of Durham’s Food Safety Training and Certification Program course manual. Complies with CLOCA policies, procedures, vision, and fundamentals. The successful candidate will also be required to contribute to general housekeeping duties and promote CLOCA as a lead agency in watershed protection and stewardship.
CLOCA’s Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival event and education program offers the opportunity for the public and school age students to learn about the history of maple syrup production in Canada, enjoy family-friendly entertainment and can enjoy a classic pancake breakfast and variety of other maple-inspired dishes. Anticipated attendance of approximately 10,000 visitors or an average of 830 visitors per day during the festival and 2,400 students or an average of 120 students per day of the education program days.
Responsibilities:
The Contractor will maintain an insurance policy which shall include bodily injury, property and automobile damage, names as additional insured CLOCA, and shall have an inclusive limit of no less than $5,000,000.00, until final completion of the contract including the making good of faulty work or material pursuant to the operations. The Contractor shall, at the time of entering into any contract with CLOCA, prior to and at anytime during the service or completion of the contract as requested by CLOCA, furnish a satisfactory clearance letter from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board stating that all assessments or compensation payable to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board have been paid.
Qualifications:
This position will report to the Special Events Coordinator. The festival hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The catering staff are expected to report to work from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to allow for setup and cleanup.
Qualifications and Experience:
1) Excellent customer service.
2) Food preparation experience.
3) Food Handling Certification.
3) Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
4) Able to work as part of a team and independently.
5) Fluent in English, a second language is an asset.
