The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority is seeking an Ontario Job Creation Partnership (OJCP) eligible individual for the position of Sustainable Neighbourhoods Community Engagement Technician.

Sustainable Neighbourhoods Community Engagement Technician


The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) is a community-based agency working in partnership with watershed municipalities to protect the natural environment. CLOCA provides environmental services within the Region of Durham, from the Oak Ridges Moraine to Lake Ontario - from Ajax/Pickering in the west to Clarington in the east. CLOCA encompasses a 627 sq. km mix of rural and rapidly expanding urban landscapes.


The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority is seeking an Ontario Job Creation Partnership (OJCP) eligible individual for the position of Sustainable Neighbourhoods Community Engagement Technician. This position is responsible for assisting with the implementing of a marketing and communication plan for the Whitby Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP) to build relationships with key stakeholders, residents, and businesses in a local neighbourhood.


Funding for this position has been provided by the Ontario Job Creation Partnership (OJCP) and all those to be interviewed, will complete a readiness assessment by an OJCP Employment Service Provider to ensure they meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a resident of Ontario, and

  • meet the Employment Insurance Act’s definition of an “insured participant”

  • be unemployed. (Individuals are considered unemployed if they: are working less than an average of 20 hours per week, and are actively seeking full-time employment.)

  • Individuals affected by long-term unemployment or in long-term receipt of social assistance may be especially suited for projects under OJCP.

Responsibilities:

1. Contributes to the implementation of neighbourhood tailored digital and print marketing and communication products to establish a brand and further support community engagement in events and programs for the Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP) in Whitby.

2. Assists with production and creation of regular and unique promotional materials and products using traditional and digital media to engage a diverse audience with a suite of messages related to community-based climate change action.

3. Assists with content development for social media, media releases, newsprint, blogs, newsletters, online forums, interviews, and corporate website.

4. Assists with the delivery of surveys, storyboards and in person and digital engagement tools for public and stakeholder consultation.

5. Assists with the delivery of community engagement activities such as open houses, consultations, interviews, community meetings, workshops, and canvassing.

6. Must comply with AODA requirements for all print and digital communication products.

7. Provides regular updates and new information to a variety of print and digital communication products.

8. Performs a variety of administrative functions including correspondence, email, distribution, documentation, data management, and record keeping.


EFFORT

9. Uses creativity and concentration and reasoning to prepare content, manage data, organize work, and identify new program and service activities.

10. Uses sight to assess and establish marketing and communication services and products and hearing to attend meetings and information from staff, and online audience.

11. Uses sight to proof-read, draft documents, read and design digital graphics, hearing to listen to staff questions and touch to operate computer equipment.

12. Sits at a desk in order to perform the duties of the job.


SKILLS

13. Completed post-secondary education in public relations, marketing or communications or equivalent combination of education and experience.

14. Working knowledge of social media, digital and print media, marketing including development of promotional products, engagement including surveys, interviews and consultation.

15. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

16. Time management skills.

17. Excellent teamwork and customer service skills, including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with diverse stakeholders.

18. Ability to work independently.

19. Demonstrated ability to deal with issues in a sensitive, and professional manner.

20. Flexibility and willingness to adjust quickly to changing priorities.

21. Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build strong relationships.

22. Able to work collaboratively with a passion for sharing knowledge and ideas with others.

23. Ability to operate computers and associated software, printer and other common office equipment.

24. Valid First Aid and CPR certification.

25. Valid Ontario Driver’s License.

26. Ability to act tactfully and professionally in confrontational situations.

27. Ability to adapt to a variety of changing priorities within the job.


Other

28. Complies with CLOCA policies, procedures, vision, and fundamentals.

29. Performs other tasks as assigned by management.


WORKING CONDITIONS

This positions generally works 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening work and is exposed to hazards within Health and Safety Regulations such as dealing with the general public.


Note: All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with CLOCA’s Health and Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.

Qualifications:

Ontario Job Creation Partnership Eligibility

The Ontario Job Creation Partnership (OJCP) provides work experience to eligible unemployed job seeders through projects that benefit the community or local economy. At the end of their participation, participants in the program will have recent work experience and additional skills to add to their resumes, increasing their chances of successfully finding long-term employment. While project s funded under the program provide community benefit, the primary focus must be on the individuals work experience.


To be eligible for OJCP, individuals must:

  • be a resident of Ontario, and

  • complete a readiness assessment by an OJCP Employment Service Provider, and

  • meet the EI Act’s definition of an “insured participant”

  • be unemployed. (Individuals are considered unemployed if they: are working less than an average of 20 hours per week, and are actively seeking full-time employment.)

  • Individuals affected by long-term unemployment or in long-term receipt of social assistance may be especially suited for projects under OJCP.

Wages and Benefits:

Total Wage Rate Per Hour: Minimum Wage + $2 top up Hours Per Week: 35
