GIS Assistant Technician
Seasonal - April 28th, 2025 to August 29th, 2025 (18 Weeks)
This is a Summer Student Position. Under direct supervision of the GIS/System Supervisor and working alongside the Senior GIS Specialist, the GIS Assistant Technician is responsible for providing project-specific support for gathering and compiling spatial data, constructing, and maintaining geodatabases and associated metadata.
The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) is seeking a summer student for the position of GIS Assistant Technician Student. Under direct supervision of the GIS/System Supervisor and working alongside the Senior GIS Specialist, the GIS Assistant Technician is responsible for providing project-specific support for gathering and compiling spatial data, constructing, and maintaining geodatabases and associated metadata.
Responsibilities:
1. Develops and modifies the creation and implementation of Geomatics databases for spatial and non-spatial data, as well as aids in any necessary maintenance to applicable databases.
2. Enters necessary data into a database including, but not limited to, the application of coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning, and automatic conversion to vectors and conversions from other digital data.
3. Creates web mapping products leveraging ArcGIS Online Web App Builder and ArcGIS Portal.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be pursuing an undergraduate degree or college diploma with an emphasis on geographic information systems and computer programming.
The successful applicant will have a minimum of one-year work experience and possess a solid working knowledge of specialized software applications, tools, and other technologies including ArcGIS, ArcPro (Spatial Analysis, 3D Analyst), ArcGIS Online, MS Access, SQL Server, MS Office and Windows Server.
To be eligible, individuals must 1) be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; 2) have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year; 3) be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident; 4) be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Wages and Benefits:
Wage Rate per Hour: $18.10 per hour Hours per Week: 35
