Salmon Spawning...Where to Report Poaching

Salmon spawning starts in September! In the past, CLOCA has received alerts from the community regarding poaching taking place in the Bowmanville Creek, and we appreciate and understand the legitimate concerns.

Please note that the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) enforces fishing regulations in the Province of Ontario and patrols the Bowmanville Creek (the land is owned and managed by the Municipality of Clarington). Rest assured that charges are laid for Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act offenses. Additionally, this year, the MNR has also posted educational signage about fishing rules.

Resource abuse should be reported to the MNR at 1-877-TIPS (1-877-847-7667)

Anonymous reports can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS

Generally, the fishing season for salmon ends on September 30. If you are fishing, please obtain a valid fishing license and adhere to fishing rules, limits, and know where fishing is permitted. This includes not fishing within 120 metres of the Bowmanville Fish Ladder and no netting or snagging of the salmon.
