Conservation Authorities
Act and Strategies

Conservation authorities are required to have a number of strategies and plans in place.  For Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) these include:

Conservation Area Strategy

Conservation Area Strategy

Central Lake Ontario Conservation (CLOCA) developed a Conservation Area Strategy to guide what programs and services CLOCA offers on land that it owns and/or manages. This guiding document positions CLOCA to continue to lead in the protection and enhancement of our Conservation Areas and greenspaces and will be used to create management policies, plans, and practices for CLOCA's Conservation Areas.

About CLOCA Lands

The map below shows CLOCA-owned and managed properties across our jurisdiction (dark green) including our eight Conservation Areas. Land protection is focused primarily on three significant natural features that run horizontally across CLOCA’s jurisdiction (outlined in black): the Oak Ridge Moraine to the north (purple), Glacial Lake Iroquois Beach (tan), and the Lake Ontario Shoreline (coastal wetlands indicated with blue dots; name legend in the lower-right corner).

Guiding Principles and Strategic Objectives for CLOCA Lands

The Conservation Area Strategy pulls together goals and objectives to guide conservation actions for lands owned or managed by CLOCA. These objectives are consistent with CLOCA’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025.

Watershed Strategy

Watershed-based Resource Management Strategy

Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) has developed a Watershed-based Resource Management Strategy (“Watershed Strategy”) to guide our programs and services.

Our Watershed Strategy helps us continue to protect nature and protect people from flooding and erosion in the communities we serve and directs where to focus our conservation efforts. We continue to use the latest scientific data, including climate change projections, to keep our watersheds healthy for the future.

Why is the Watershed Strategy Important?

The Watershed Strategy helps CLOCA and our partner municipalities guide how our future watershed plans are developed and updated. These watershed plans are our blueprint for sustainable development, ensuring that our rivers and surrounding lands thrive into the future. The details about what actions should be taken to conserve our watersheds will be found in the watershed plans.

Guiding Principles and Strategic Objectives for the Watershed Strategy

The guiding principles and objectives that inform the design and delivery of these programs and services are derived from Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority's (CLOCA's) Strategic Plan 2021-2025 which was updated in 2021.

Land Inventory

Land Inventory

CLOCA’s Land Inventory identifies every parcel of land that CLOCA owns and includes some basic information for each parcel, such as location, acquisition date, method, and land use category, among others.  The Land Inventory will be reviewed and updated annually.
