About the event
Join us for our third annual Bird Count for Kids, inspired by the original annual Christmas Bird Count started in 1900—North America’s longest-running community science event! We’re excited to introduce young bird fans to bird-watching and bird-counting for science. Again this year we have a guest falconer joining us with a LIVE birds of prey presentation, following a hike in small groups to search for, identify, and record Lynde Shores Conservation Area’s feathered friends. On the hike, we will learn about the importance of birds in our watershed, the purpose of the bird count, tips on identifying different winter birds, and have an opportunity to feed the song birds from our hands. You’ll even learn how to use binoculars! Warm up with hot chocolate and enjoy a small treat upon return from the hike while enjoying the LIVE birds of prey presentation. Recommended for ages 7 and up.
